These Marketplace Terms apply when a customer buys a product identified as being sold by an independent maker through DIY Book Binding Supplies. They supplement our general Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. South African consumer law, including rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, always prevails over any conflicting wording below.
1. How the marketplace works
DIY Book Binding Supplies provides the website, product discovery, checkout and payment technology. The maker named on each listing is the seller of that maker product and is responsible for the product description, stock, quality, packing, dispatch, delivery information, returns and customer service. Products from different makers are grouped separately in the cart and are checked out one shop at a time.
2. Maker approval and listings
Makers must provide accurate identity, contact, bank and payout information and may sell only after approval. A listing must accurately show the item, price, materials, size, condition, processing time, delivery limitations and any customisation. Photos and descriptions must belong to the maker or be lawfully licensed. We may correct, pause or remove a listing that is misleading, unsafe, unlawful, out of stock or inconsistent with these terms.
3. Prices, fees and payouts
- The maker sets the product price. Prices and delivery charges shown at checkout must be honoured.
- The marketplace service fee is 2.9% of the maker product amount unless a different fee has been agreed in writing.
- Paystack’s payment-processing fee is separate and is charged to the maker subaccount under the current marketplace configuration.
- Paystack split payments send the maker share to the maker’s verified subaccount and the marketplace share to DIY Book Binding Supplies. DIY Book Binding Supplies does not manually hold the maker’s ordinary payout share.
- Bank settlement timing is controlled by Paystack, the participating banks, compliance checks, weekends and public holidays. A displayed dashboard balance is not a promise of same-day bank settlement.
- Refunds, reversals, chargebacks, fraud losses or payment corrections relating to a maker order may be recovered from that maker’s future settlement or handled according to Paystack’s applicable process.
4. Delivery charges and maker responsibility
For South African delivery, the methods and prices displayed at checkout are the controlling charges. The current standard options are R150 for The Courier Guy home delivery and R85 for PUDO door-to-locker, while a no-charge collection option may be used only when the maker has confirmed collection details in the listing or directly with the buyer. Rates may be updated when carrier prices change.
The shipping fee for a maker order is allocated to that maker. The maker is responsible for buying or arranging the selected service, packing the item safely, dispatching within the stated processing time, supplying tracking where available and dealing with carrier queries. A buyer must provide an accurate address, telephone number and, where relevant, locker or branch details. Each shop may incur its own delivery charge because maker orders are checked out separately.
If a maker cannot use the selected service from their location, the maker must disclose the available alternative before accepting the order. The buyer must not be charged an undisclosed extra delivery amount after payment without agreeing to it.
5. Cancellations, returns and refunds
Nothing in these terms removes a customer’s rights under applicable law. A buyer should contact the maker promptly through the order or store contact details if an item is missing, damaged, defective, materially different from its description or delivered incorrectly, and should keep photographs, packaging and tracking evidence.
- Where a statutory cooling-off or return right applies, the buyer may exercise it within the period provided by law.
- Change-of-mind returns that are not legally required may be accepted at the maker’s stated policy and may require the buyer to pay return delivery.
- Custom-made, personalised, made-to-order, opened hygiene-sensitive and digital products may have limited change-of-mind return rights where the law permits, but faulty, unsafe or misdescribed products remain subject to applicable consumer protections.
- A maker must not demand that a buyer waive a non-waivable legal right.
Approved refunds are returned through the original payment route where possible. Delivery charges are refunded when required by law or when the maker agrees. The maker remains responsible for the commercial cost of refunds arising from their product, listing, fulfilment or service failure.
6. Delivery problems and disputes
The buyer should first contact the maker and allow two business days for a response. If the matter is unresolved, email info@diybookbindingsupplies.co.za with the order number, a clear description and supporting evidence. We may ask both parties for information, facilitate communication, pause a listing or maker account, and record an agreed resolution. We do not prevent either party from using statutory consumer remedies, Paystack’s dispute process, a bank chargeback process or an appropriate regulator or court.
7. Prohibited products and conduct
Makers may not list unlawful, stolen, counterfeit, recalled or unsafe goods; weapons; controlled drugs; hazardous substances that cannot lawfully be shipped; pornography or exploitative content; items that infringe copyright, trade marks, privacy or publicity rights; deceptive digital files; or any product prohibited by a payment provider or carrier. Spam, fake reviews, off-platform payment requests intended to avoid marketplace fees, harassment and misuse of buyer data are also prohibited.
8. Privacy and communications
A maker may use buyer information only to fulfil the order, provide customer service and meet legal obligations. It may not be added to unrelated marketing lists without valid consent or disclosed unnecessarily. Marketplace and Paystack privacy notices also apply to information they process.
9. Taxes, records and compliance
Each maker is responsible for their own registrations, tax, invoices, product compliance and business records. Makers must tell us if information used for payout or compliance checks changes.
10. Suspension and changes
We may suspend selling or remove listings while investigating safety, fraud, repeated fulfilment failures, unresolved disputes, invalid payout details or a breach of these terms. We may update these terms for operational, carrier, payment or legal changes. Material changes will apply prospectively unless law or urgent risk management requires otherwise.
